This is the first time I'm taking REX. And my first time on a Saab 340. I heard it's safer than a commercial jet because it can glide to safety if the engine fails. I don't want to experience how this works.
We'll be going to Brisbane and Gold Coast via Armidale. Armidale is located in the New England region of Northern New South Wales. A university city, it is a sophisticated town surrounded by some of the states prettiest national parkland.
The propellers were quite loud, and we were just sitting beside it. But it's interesting to see be able the reflection of the plane on it.
Touchdown on Armidale Regional Airport after 55 minutes. The wind is not for the faint hearted, it's cold and dry as we were on highland.
Now the joke is on you. I thought you guys are the funny bunch.
We had the road trip of our life in this V6 Holden Commodore. 6 hours ETA to Brisbane. Let the adventure begins!
We were greeted by giant broomsticks by the roadside.
That's the University of New England. Looked like a cottage to me.
The humidity of the place is so low that the grass all dried up. The cows here like their meals deep fried without oil.
No, we did not kill any kangaroos along the way. Some others did.
That poor guy turned pink from grey just by the heat of the sun. But it caught our attention and we stopped for lunch.
All time favourite, fish and chips! I reckon it should be chips and fish instead, considering the proportions of the 2 served.
A little tired, but still enjoying my calamari.
After 6 grueling hours driving through highland, mountains, endless expressways, all with the sun right in your eyes, we reached Brisbane at 3pm. We stopped at the latest addition of mega shopping malls, the DFO. Just beside the airport.
Caught up with Mel over there. Had a nice time chatting. Too tired to drive anymore to anywhere. For now.
After that, we drove to meet up with Esmond and his Astina. He's my uni buddy and is currently working at Commonwealth Bank. Cool!
We had dinner at this place called Manors, same name as the apartment we stayed during uni days. It's nice to be back at Sunnybank. Nice hot food on a cold cold night is simply bliss.
The Taiwanese still got their spelling wrong. But funny.
Stewed beef brisket. The gravy was just awesome.
Gui Fei Chicken, similar to Crystal Jade style.
Deep fried ribs with salt and chili. A little dry for my taste.
After dinner, we drove all the way back to Gold Coast. The night crowd was dodgy with everyone high on everything and making a scene.
We put up at Orchid Hotel along Surfer's Paradise. It has got a huge hall with plasma on the wall! Luxurious! Thanks, dear for the arrangement!
