Went Katong today for a makan (eating) trail and photo session. Just for your general knowledge, Katong is the name of an exotic species of sea turtle now extinct. It also means the rippling effect of a sea mirage when looking at a shoreline. "Tanjong" means "Bay".

Hence, "Katong", the "Turtle Mirage" district is bordered by "Tanjong Katong" which means "Turtle Mirage Bay", similar to the "Turtle Bay" district in Manhattan, New York opposite the United Nations headquarters.

Always learning something new here, eh?

Saw an old man, probably senile as he was talking himself while lying on the bench all the time.

Went over to Parkway Parade side, across the super dodgy Roxy Square.

I used to have my hair cut there.

The durian sellers there were so aggressive! And the species name of D70, D13, what "red prawn" and other funny nicknames are so confusing.

Have you tried Apollo Fried Kway Teow at Marine Parade hawker centre? It's wetter than usual and has a strong (some say overpowering) garlic flavour, which I like.

The kway teow are fatter than usual and there are lots of lard bits in it, giving it a contrasting crispy bite.

Pretty awesome food for $3 a plate.

Saw an ang mo chilling out at a kopitiam. Or was he trying to cover his bald spot from the sun?
