How would you introduce yourself to a new friend from China? I decided to share a bit of me that most people may not know.
I'm Hakka, and not to be confused with the traditional Maori dance of tongue sticking like by the All Blacks.
I went to do a little research of my roots, and found out that the Hakka have had a significant influence on the course of Chinese history by being either revolutionaries or political leaders.
Sun Yat Sen and Deng Xiao Ping are both Hakka.
My great grandfather migrated to Singapore from Dapu, Guangdong back in the early days in search of a better life.
That's where MM Lee Kuan Yew and Yong Pung How (former Chief Justice) family was from also.
Other famous Hakkas include
1) Jimmy Choo, world famous shoe maker
2) Chow Yun Fatt, actor
3) Guang Liang and Ping Guan, singers
4) Ho Yeow Sun, singer
5) Fann Wong, actress
I must go to China one day to visit Guangdong. Just like the Aussies here will go back to Europe or wherever their forefathers were from to have a look.
Do you know about your roots?
I blame my sense of direction to my roots as migrants. So, I reckon a GPS will be really handy for all my future travelling.
After extensive research, I reckon the TomTom One is the most value for money. I'll not be lost, fumbling with the street directory to locate my customers at some forsaken location.
Where can I shop for a good GPS in Singapore?
