Still dreaming about owning an iPhone 3G, but don't want to be tied down with a 2yr contract?

Let me share with you where you can buy unlocked ones, totally legal.

Hong Kong.

The 8GB version is on sale at Apple's online store for $HK5400 (about $A840), while the 16GB model is $HK6200 ($A964).

The phones can be activated with any wireless carrier.

Well, I reckon getting an iPhone prepaid with Optus is still cheaper.

Prepaid handsets are locked to the network. An $80 fee applies if network locking is removed within the first 6 months from the activation date. Alternatively, if you recharge to the value of $80, no fee applies.

With that in mind, a 8GB model will cost A$809 and 16GB A$929 in total to be unlocked.

We are going to see a lot of grey products everywhere, very soon.

And price will be very competitive for sure.

Let me know if there are any cheaper ways to get hold of them.
