Today is the first day of reservist. Supposed to report at 7.30am, but I coulnn't wake up till about 6.30am.
Anyway, put on my No 4 (it still fits!) and my dust covered boots. Felt like crap.
To reach the camp, I had to use PIE, BKE and KJE to reach CCK Way. I'll never stay there.
While I was along KJE, Don (reservist friend) called me and told me there was a typo on the SAF 100 (reservist notification letter). They typed the wrong camp name! Good thing that he called, or else I don't know where I will end up.
SAF has not changed much after all, despite their heavy ad campaign on tv and Orchard Road.
I only know 2 guys in there, Don and Raymond. We were from the the defunct 1PDF.
The whole day was filled with lectures. I've never been to a more boring lecture, monotone and countless repetition. Great for sleeping.
I was on the lookout for interesting characters. The last ICT, I knew a skinny guy, balding and fashionably challenged. He kept boasting about his string of SQ stewardess girlfriends. When asked to show a photo of at least one, he kept avoiding the question. Funny guy, lar.
Then there is the other one who frequents Batam. Not for the beach, but for something else. If you read the papers about a debate to ban this kind of tourism, he will be badly affected.
Our bunk was located at block Hilton. Not bad, can stay Hilton during ICT. Don't play play.
We were on the 3rd floor, great exercise for me. One day have to climb at least 5 times, I could lose weight just by doing this.
I got the biggest shock when the cookhouse uses an ATM like machine to scan our IC before we can eat. During my active (NSF) times, we only used tokens (like those use for mahjong) to accounts for the number of us eating the food there, so SFI (the caterer) can charge SAF.
Now, they used such high tech gadgets to count the number of plate of rice going out everyday. And they have our details too. Scary. If you have paid a lot of tax last year, some of them went to this project.
