Today marked the opening Australia's major annual horse race on the Flemington Racecourse.

Derby Day lifted the curtain for the bigger Melbourne Cup Day, which is held on the first Tuesday of November, since 1861.
Oh, by the way, do you know that it is also a public holiday? In Melbourne only. We Sydneysiders STILL have to work.

Besides the obvious punters, the other group of fans would be the ladies waiting to fit into their race day fashion.
The hats are the main draw, and shopping malls had selling been heaps of these, months before this big day.

We were invited to a wonderful dinner at Jake's place. The pork based stock was rich with flavours. And it had a different feel to it when it was served in a wok as a steamboat.

The well marbled beef was the star of the steamboat. The melt in your mouth texture proved to be one of the most popular item on the table.

Happy birthday to Hernanta! Someone forgot to bring candles again. No choice, have to use lighter as substitute.

A prayer for the birthday boy, who is expecting his fiancee to come and join him next February.

This cake is really good, especially the blackcurrant filling and the light tasting whipped cream. Divine!

Thank you Jake, our future robotic scientist for the food and the hospitality.
