Inspired to be like James Bond? How about making a DIY surveillance system at home?

The Nike + iPod Sport Kit was designed for use by joggers. It consists of a sensor placed in the sole of a specially-designed Nike shoe, and a receiver which plugs into the bottom of the iPod Nano.

The sensor tracks the distance and pace of your jog, and transmits this data to the receiver, enabling users to keep track of their run from the iPod and receive audio feedback.

But researchers at the University of Washington have found that this data can be "easily" intercepted by a simple home-made receiver from up to 18 metres away, revealing your location.

Since the wireless signal from each sensor is unique, it could enable anyone to track your every move, even if the device is not hooked up to an iPod at the time.

To test their theory, the researchers built a number of surveillance tools that stalkers could potentially use to track Nike+iPod Sport Kit owners.

"When someone wearing an active Nike+iPod sensor walks near one of our laptops, the laptop's attached Nike+iPod receiver will detect the sensor's broadcast messages and will relay information about those messages to the laptop."

This information can be uploaded to a database for use as part of a "larger surveillance system", the researchers said.

Further, when combined with online mapping software such as Google Maps, trackers could use the data to plot your location in real-time.

In addition to the laptop-based system, the researchers also developed other surveillance tools that can be used for similar means.

So ladies, when some guys give you this as your Christmas present, don't be surprised when you keep bumping into him while you go jogging.

I got to know a very sad news today. Our domestic servant in Singapore, who has been with us for more than 15 years lost everything to Typhoon Durian.

The typhoon struck her home country last Thursday. It brought heavy rains and strong winds, with speed up to 240 km/hr that destabilized the slopes of Mount Mayon, the country's most active volcano.

Mud and boulders cascaded down the mountain, crushing people in their path. Rescuers said many of those killed had been torn to pieces. Entire villages lay buried beneath thick, black volcanic sludge.

The Red Cross said more than 1,000 people had probably died in the disaster.

She got to know a Singaporean guy and is going to be married to him. Both of them were planning to go back this month to meet her family, before the disaster struck.

Prior to this, her house was damaged by a falling tree. The roof was ripped apart and she remitted more than $3000 of her hard earned money back to repair it. She also just courier back a big box of personal belonging.

Then it happened.

Her house, together with her brothers and sisters were lost in this catastrophe.

Air tickets had been paid for and all she celebrate Christmas together with her family. Now, she have nowhere to stay and a lot of issues to settle.

Why must we be living in such a broken down world where bad things happen to good people?
