We had our very own first church camp at the Crosslands Youth and Convention Centre, surrounded by beautiful national park bushland located beside the Berowra river.

It was about an hour away from Sydney to the Hornsby Shire region.

We saw a kangaroo crossing the road and had to stop if we didn't want minced meat on the tyre. There were wild parrots and flying around too.

Crosslands was a popular recreation area in the 1890s and early 1900s. In 1942 the area was used for boat storage following a threat of enemy invasion during the Second World War.

Heavy rains fell shortly after and within 2 days the river had risen above safety level. Logs jammed behind Galston Bridge formed a dam which burst, sending a wall of water down the Gorge. Crosslands reserve was flooded to a depth of 4.5 meters. Broken and stranded boats littered the banks of Berowra Creek and hung suspended from trees.

I was allocated with 7 others to share the bunk at Kent Lodge. The bunk reminded me of my army days, except that we didn't have a sink in there.

We met up on Friday evening for dinner and had a night worship session before heading to bed.

Good night guys!
