We were so looking forward to see the fiords at Milford Sound.

The bus picked us up at the holiday park as we didn't feel like driving 2hrs there and back to Te Anau.

The driver/guide was pretty humorous. He forgot to wear his cap and apologised to us for the glare reflected from his bald spot.

We alighted along the way to take some touristy shots of Mirror Lakes. I wished that the water was slightly calmer so I could get a better picture.

The term "sound" was actually wrong, as this place is actually a fiord.

A fiord is created when a glacier travels across and down a slope, carving the valley by the action of scouring. When the ice recedes or thaws, the valley remains together and an inlet of the sea forms between cliffs.

A sound is formed by the sea flooding a river valley. This produces a long inlet where the sloping valley hillsides decend to sea-level and continue beneath the water to form a sloping sea floor

We were completely dwarfed by these natural beauties. And it was so peaceful there.

This place is also the wettest place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world.

Rainfall can reach 250 mm on a span of 24 hours. The rainfall creates dozens of waterfalls cascading down the cliff faces, which the guide said it was a sight to behold.

Bowen Falls in full flow.

Near Milford Sound were also locations used to film some of the scenes of the Argonath, the monument comprising of 2 enormous pillars.

Even the New Zealand Fur Seals (kokono in the Māori language) came out to perform tricks for us.

On the way back to Te Anau, we stopped by a river for a drink of glacier water. It was so cold and refreshing. Evian, NZ style.

Lake Te Anau is the second-largest lake in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island.

I thought it looked really beautiful. It was one of my favourite lakes.

After the disappointing dinner the night before, I decided to cook myself.

I BBQed some lamb and steak and Eliss helped with the sides, which consisted of cream of mushroom and macaroni and cheese.

Nice!
