8 students and a school principal have been killed by a pupil in Finland. He opened fire with a handgun hours after posting a video on YouTube predicting a massacre.

“I am prepared to fight and die for my cause,” he wrote in a post. “I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection.”

The gunman, 18-year-old Pekka-Eric Auvinen, later died in hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

I wanted to link the video to my blog, but it has already been taken down.

What has happened to all these students? It seems to be happening so rampantly these days where some guy will go around shooting someone else.

Are you going to be part of Facebook's army?

Well, that's what Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg want the 50 million of you to do.

To be part of his army of viral marketers.

Major brands like Coca-Cola are being recruited to create their own profiles on the site, which just like those of regular users can include video, photos, announcements, promotions and plug-in applications.

Users can then sign up as "fans" of that brand and engage with it just like a regular friend. When the user interacts with a brand, their activities - mashed together with paid advertisements - show up on the user's profile page and on their friends' "News Feed" summary.

Effectively, by writing a comment on an advertiser's Facebook wall or publishing a review of its products, the user becomes a viral marketer or, a "trusted referrer".

No wonder Microsoft invested $US250 million ($A268 million), and valued the company at $US15 billion.

You know what, having a little extra weight (my double chin!) actually seemed to help people survive some illnesses, according to the latest report from Journal of the American Medical Association.

Being obese can lead to death from heart, diabetes and kidney disease, and several cancers, including breast, colon and pancreatic.

But the same group of people is also 40% less likely than normal-weight people to die from semphysema, pneumonia, injuries and various infections.

So, it's ok to be a bit chubby, especially we are nearing the holiday seasons. Be happy!
