Gong Xi Fa Cai! I hope the Year of the Ox will be bullish, and not bullshit for everyone!
The reason why we can celebrate CNY together this year because it happened to be Australia Day as well.
Australia Day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, the unfurling of the British flag at Sydney Cove and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.
This public holiday is rather controversial as there have been significant protests from the Indigenous Australian community. Many Indigenous Australians see Australia Day as a celebration of the destruction of Indigenous culture by British colonialism. Since 1988, "Invasion Day" protests have been held supporting this view.
Anyway, I don't really care. I'm celebrating this day as a Australian Permanent Resident.
Market City is dressed to the occasion as expected. Heaps of red and gold everywhere.
Yum Cha on CNY seems to be the obvious thing to do for a big table of 13.
Eliss looking cute in her pink cheongsam.
Chloe and Joseph, who kindly organised the lunch today. Thanks, guys!
Jess and Kevin.
Sarah and Luke, who are Koreans if you have not already known.
Kendy and Sharon, our latest newly weds.
Luke, Ben and Kendy.
Chicken Feet (Phoenix Claws). Delicacy for some, fear factor challenge for others.
You Char Kway with Cheong Fun. They call it Leong Fun over here.
Shark's fin dumplings, because we are too broke to order the real deal.
Overseas family photo shot.
Had a stroll at Belmore Park after the heavy lunch. Wanted to catch some lion dance performance, but the last day of it was yesterday. The park was totally empty.
Do you know what POPE stands for? According to Sydney City Council, it is the Place of Public Entertainment.
Still with 2 hours more to go for the Australia Day fireworks, we ended up watching Underworld in the city. Tickets were exorbitant at $18 each.
I find the movie so so. Lots of bloodshed from the fight scenes between the vampires and the werewolfs.
Go and watch it if there is nothing better at the cinema.
