Another interesting day at the office today. In the middle of my induction program, my manager came down and asked me to go see him during lunch.
My first thought was oh oh, what's happening here?
My worries were totally uncalled for. He just wanted to pass me some stuff.
Did you know that today is Harmony Day? It is a government initiative to celebrate the cohesive and inclusive nature of Australia, and promotes the benefits of cultural diversity on 21 March every year.
There was a huge pot luck lunch party at the pantry boasting food from around the world. He invited me for to join him and I mingled with some of the older staff.
Maybe Eliss's office can do the same thing too, since her colleagues are from all over the world too.
After lunch, the person from Training and Development brought us to have a look at the telephone exchange.
It is such an amazing experience to see rows upon rows of servers and other intricate instruments with blinking lights. This is the backbone supporting the telecommunication infrastructure of the country. That sms you send, and that email you forwarded is possible because of this.
Awesome stuff, mate.
Any plans for the upcoming long weekend in 2 weeks time?
If you plan to shop, better think again because major retailers, including supermarket chains Coles and Woolworths along with David Jones and Harvey Norman, have been refused permission to trade in NSW on Easter Sunday.
Under the Shop Trading Act it is an offence for any shop to trade on Easter Sunday, as well as the other restricted trading days of Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and prior to 1pm on Anzac Day.
Can you imagine if Singapore has such laws as well? The people will go mad for sure!
